During the Edo period,in Japan,the Nakasendo Way was a traffic artery connecting Tokyo to Kyoto,through Otsu.In the period when walking was the main mode of transportation,a continuous stream of visitors passed through Nakasendo Way.A lot of beautiful landscape and Shukubamachi which was available for people to stay and rest,were constructed.Sankin shift system was abolished in the late Edo (1730),a new means of transportation was come out after Meiji (1868),and the role traffic of Nakasendo Way was reduced gradually.When the car became the core of transportation,Shukubamachi had become a tourist hotspot,and was paid attention by people.On the other hand,Nakasendo Way between the Shukubamachi which is only went sightseeing by walking,is gradually out of peoples memory.This paper studied Higashi Minoji of Nakasendo Way with very rich historical landscape resources between Shukubamachi.The targeted part of Nakasendo Way was located between Tsumago Shukubamachi (Nakasen 42nd Shukubamachi) and Ota Shukubamachi (Nakasen 51 nd Shukubamachi),with a length of 73km.Based on the "soft" investigation of literatures,and the "hard" investigation by field survey of the historical relics along the street,comprehensive collected results and analysis characteristic of landscape resources.It aims at acquiring the plan conditions for effective use of the scene resources,and its preservation.The results of this research could be summarized as follows:1) Names,locations and quantities of historical resources,natural resources and resources about famous personalities in Higashi Minoji of Nakasendo Way,have been determined.2) Landscape resources such as hills and temples,batokanno * 6 and monument of unknown names should be displayed using boards.Landscape resources that do not have descriptions in literature materials,like some temples,bridges,nightlights and signage should be included in the future literature about this area.3) The results of this study helped in gathering basic data for the regional development and effective use of the landscape resources at Higashi Minoji of Nakasendo Way.
