Ultra-strong polarization dependent and polarization independent split bull's eye antennas

  Split bull's eye(SBE)antenna is a novel central aperture-modified BE antenna which has a better performance used for high speed photodetector at near infrared [1].In this work,we investigate the polarization dependence of SBE antennas that have one single sub-wavelength slit or two crossed sub-wavelength slits as their central apertures from visible to mid infrared.We use finite difference time domain and finite element simulation methods to investigate SBE antennas and sub-wavelength slit.The transmission efficiency of SBE antennas is much stronger than BE antenna due to the different transmission modes and Fabry Perot resonance in the central slits.At mid infrared(4μm),the transmission efficiency of SBE antennas is six orders of magnitude than that of BE antenna.SBE antenna with one single sub-wavelength slit has ultra-strong polarization dependent(the polarization extinction ratio is 88.9dB at 4μm)than the other modified BE antennas [2,3].The polarization dependent of SBE with two crossed slits is related to the angle between the two slits.When the two slits are orthogonal to each other,SBE antenna is completely polarization independent.By modifying the central apertures,SBE antennas have an unique polarization dependent property,which can be further utilized in polarized or unpolarized photonic devices,especially for high speed photodetector.
