Development of multi-pass MOCVD process for fabricating REBCO coated conductors

  The multi-pass technique has been proven to be practical in fabricating long REBCO tapes with high critical currents,where RE = (Gd,Y).In this approach,a thick REBCO film is built up by growing multiple thinner films one atop each other in distinctive deposition runs.The advantages of this technique include: 1.Regrowth or multipass is powerful in increasing line tape speed in each individual pass; 2.The approach is of the capability to modify process condition in each run to achieve higher Jc in thick films; 3.Maintenance on the system can be done between individual runs,which increases the system capability; 4.It enables controlling the critical current of the product through adjusting parameters,such as tape speed and deposition rate,in the final pass according to the results from previous passes.
