  It can raise ignition temperature greatly that a certain amount of RE was added to Mg-8%Al alloy.When 0.1%RE was added,the ignition-proof effect is the greatest and the ignition temperature increased to 823℃.For Mg-8%Al-0.1%RE alloy,which was analyzed through SEM and X-ray diffraction analysis,results showed that on the surface of alloy appears a layer of tightly coherent oxidation film consisting of (RE)203,MgO,Al2O3,Mg17Al12 under high temperature,which can prevent the base alloy from oxidizing further.By analyzing the oxidation film elements distribution on the surface and in the depth with EDS,the phenomenon that RE gathered on surface can be discovered,and the content of RE in the microscopic crack of oxidation film is much higher.TGA reveals that the oxidization kinetic curvers follow the parabola at the temperature of 400℃and 700℃,and cubic principle at the temperature of 600℃.At these temperature the oxidizing process was controlled by diffusing obstruction,which proves the oxidation film of surface has the function of protection.
