RP215 is one of three thousand monoclunal antibodies generated against an ovarian cancer cell line and was shown to react specifically with a carbohydrate-associated epitope located in the variable domains of cancer cell-expressed immunoglobulins, known as CA215 pan cancer marker.Through extensive biochemical, immunological, and molecular biological studies in our laboratory, we have been able to show that the RP215-specific epitope is present immunoglobulin superfarnily (IgSF) proteins expressed by cancer cells of many different human tissue origins including those of ovary,cervix, esophagus, stomach, colon, lung, and breast.However, this epitope is not found in normal B cell IgSF proteins.
