Introduction : The gold standard for diagnosing pulmonary embolism (PE) is CT angiography, but PE is occasionally detected on unenhanced chest CT scans.This has been reported a few times, but its clinical significance has not been studied.Method : We retrospectively evaluated unerhanced and enhanced CT findings of 108 patients with PE, and they were divided into identifiable and unidentifiable thrombi groups based on precontrast scans.Density and location of thrombi, embolic burden score, diameters of fight ventricle (RV) and left ventricle (LV) and their ratio, ventricular septal bowing, D-Dimer, hematocrit/hemoglobin levels, presence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and short-term PE-related mortality were evaluated and compared.
