NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF PROGRESSIVE DAMAGE IN A 2.5D WOVENCOMPOSITES

  In this paper,the representative volume cell (RVC) is established to simulate the periodical structure of 2.5D layer-to-layer angle interlock woven composites.Periodical boundary condition is applied on the RVC to satisfy the displacement and stress continuity of the RVC.The mesoscopic damage theory is adopted in the model to simulate the progressive damage behavior of the 2.5D woven composites.The damage initiation and propagation criteria are based on the Puck criteria for the fiber yam,the paraboloidal yield criterion for the matrix and the quadratic stress criterion for the fiber yarn/matrix interface.The stress-strain curves of the woven composites are obtained under different type of loads.In order to check this numerical model,some typical experiments are also carried out.By comparing the numerical simulation results with experimental ones,the reliability of the numerical results is verified.
