Web 3D GIS for Oceanographic Data Visualizations

  The needs for digital models of real environment such as 3D terrain or virtualr city model are increasing.Especially,Oceanic data,which is measured or surveyed is vary in kind and shape.At the same time,it has different data formats or expression ways according to particular study area.Spatially,the types of Oceanographic Data are different from one-dimensional to three-dimensional.And there are static data at one side,and time series data the other side which represent spatial distribution and variation of oceanic environment each.Recently,there are increasing need to appication of Web 3D GIS for Oceanographic Data Visualization.Web3D GIS is three diemensional GIS system in internet environment such as something more than Google Earth.3D visualization is one of the key features of GIS.In the last decade,much effort has been made in developing 3D visualization theories and methods for a better understanding and modeling of real-world phenomena.The need for 3D information is rapidly increasing in urban planning,cadastre,environmental monitoring,public rescue operations,transportation monitoring,military applications.This paper presents the review of web 3d GIS status and standardization regarding representation of geographicl information,especially for 3D shape and appearance of Oceanographic Data visualiztion.Firstly,3D GIS is more useful system to manage and visualize 3D real world data than 2D GIS.Secondly,Dynamic interactive 3D visualization more useful than static map in internet GIS environment.
