During the operation of fusion reactor,materials will be intensely irradiated by the 14 MeV neutrons and fission neutrons,which are generated from nuclear fusion in the core and fuel fission in the blankets respectively.The 14 MeV neutrons have a serious influence on the mechanical properties of structural materials in fusion reactors,and may disable material performance.To utilize the fusion energy,structural materials that satisfy the requirements of 14 MeV neutron environment must be developed.Preconditions of the materials verification for engineering application are the implementations of 14 MeV neutron field.This paper conducts the feasibility study on converting thermal neutrons to 14 MeV neutrons by nuclear reaction in fission reactor,in order to obtain the local fusion neutron field.
