Respiratory viruses cause frequently acute infections of the lower respiratory tract (ALRI) in hospitalized children.These infections are frequent include laryngitis, tracheobronchitis, bronchiolitis, and pneumonia.Most of them are caused by the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and the influenza viruses and occur during the cold season in Western European countries.Viral ALRIs occur also in autumn or spring, especially those caused by the rhinovirus, parainfluenza virus and coronavirus infections.
