In this talk we will discuss a method to achieve and design optical non-linear re sponses through a light-mediated spatial hybridization of dierent standard nonlinearities.The mechanism is based on the fact that optical propagation through a spatial compos ite of dierent nonlinear media is governed by an eective nonlinear response if the spatial scale of the sequence is much smaller than light diraction length.We apply our general approach to the signicant case of centro-symmetric photorefractive crystal biased by a pe riodically modulated external voltage to predict strictly bending-free miniaturized soliton propagation.
