  The oriental fruit fly,Bactrocera dorsalis Hendel(Diptera: Tephritidae),is considered as a dangerous pest of fleshy fruits and vegetables in most countries.The sterile insect technique(SIT)involving area-wide release of mass-reared sterilized insects,has proven to be an environment-friendly method for the management of insect pests that cause crop damage as larvae.However,disadvantages of SIT such as reduction of competitiveness are inevitable,and the Tet-off-based lethality system generated by transgenic approach is a good way to improve SIT.
