  An headspace-liquid phase microextraction (HS-LPME)-GC method for characterization of volatile components in dry chrysanthemum flower was developed.In the proposed method, two extractants, n-hexadecane and benzyl alcohol, were alternately used for preconcentrating volatiles in the sample, respectively.The extractant droplet was squeezed from the GC syringe and inserted above the sample that warmed in water bath.The optimum conditions in terms of droplet magnitude, equilibrium (water bath) temperature and time, extraction time, and ionic strength, etc.were achieved using GC-FID by varying several levels of these factors that affect the extraction efficiency of the HS-LPME procedure.After extracted under the optimized conditions, the droplet was retracted into the syringe and injected for GC-MS analysis.The components that obscured by the peak of the extraction solvent can be avoided by the two extractants with different polarity, and the volatile components in the plant sample can be extracted with higher efficiency at their similar polarity to the extraction solvents.
