The kinetic aspect of gas transfer across the air-sea interface is often parameterized with respect to wind speed.The largest uncertainty in the nonlinear parameterization occurs at higher wind speeds.This is particularly relevant in the Southern Ocean which accounts for ~40% of the oceanic uptake of anthropogenic CO2 and also experiences high wind speeds.During the SOLAS Air-Sea Gas Exchange Experiment (SAGE),a dual tracer experiment was carried out during periods of high wind speeds in order to determine the parameterization.In this paper we examine the sources of uncertainty in this parameterization.
