Many aspects of animal metabolism are subjected to circadian regulation.This regulation is achieved, at least in part, by transcriptional regulators of genes involved in the metabolic processes in question.Although the expression of some of these genes is governed directly by core components of the circadian oscillator, that of most clock-output genes is probably controlled more indirectly by relay transcription factors, whose activities are driven by the clock.
