In order to lower the formaldehyde emission and increase the internal bond strength of wood-based composite materials bonded with urea-formaldehyde (UF) adhesives, the aminolysis of styrene-maleic anhydride (SMAA) alternating copolymers were carried out with the products explored as a new kind of modifier for the UF resins prepared under low formaldehyde/urea (F/U) molar ratio and traditional alkaline-acid-alkaline process conditions.
