We have carried out a programme of BVRI photometry and medium resolution spectroscopy with the 2.1m telescope at San Pedro Martir,Mexico on a sample of about a dozen cD galaxies,including several(A193,A496 and A2199)with multiple nuclei which may represent the cD in the process of merging with neighbour galaxies.The properties of the multiple nuclei galaxies are compared with the rest of the sample to determine if there are any differences,as well as considering other possible merger signatures(bluer central populations,cooling flow stopped etc.)
