Decalin and paraffin have been adopted as typical solvents to prepare high strength and high modulus ultra-high molecular weight (UHMWPE) fibers by gel spinning in commercial levels.Different gelation mechanisms of UHMWPE solutions prepared by two solvents, however, were confirmed in terms of phase separation due to concentration fluctuation of the solution as well as the dried gel structures.
