Phenotypic flexibility in traits can allow organisms to cope with environmental challenges.Standard metabolic rate(SMR)is the minimal maintenance metabolic rate of ectherms(e.g.,fish)in a post-absorptive state,and varies significantly among individuals in many taxa despite of correcting for their biological traits.However,the effects of SMR and its flexibility on the fitness are generally unknown under the changing environment.
