I will give a version of the Fourier inversion theorem for general connected, simply connected nilpotent Lie groups G by showing that operator fields defined on suitable submanifolds of g are images of Schwartz functions under the Fourier transform. As an application, the prime ideals of L1(G)will be characterised. This is a joint work with Jean Ludwig and Carine Molitor-Braun.
