Objective: Even though many treatment strategies are tried for spinal cord injury in several centers, no successful treatment breakthrough has been reported so far.We have published many articles on spinal cord regeneration in animals using neurotransmitter modulation of bone marrow.Autologus bone marrow Tissue Implantation (ABMTI) with stimulation of endogenous production of neurotransmitters is presented as a new treatment strategy. Methods: 50 Patients with ASIAA or B traumatic paraplegics and tetraplegics of more than five years duration were grouped into A & B.Group A had multicyclic ABMTI through lumbar puncture and Group B had multicyclic ABMTI with stimulation of endogenous neurotransmitters using Neurotransmitter stimulating agents in patient specific dose. Results: At the end of 36 months, 3 patients in Group B started walking without support and 10 started standing without support. The rest had at least Grade 1 improvement. In Group A Grade 1 improvement was noticed in 7 patients. The FA value in DTI showed significant improvement in in Group B.There was improvement in bladder capacity in 3 patients, reinnervation changes in EMG in one patient and significal changes in SSEP in one patient in group B.Conclusions: Thus our results suggest that ABMTI with stimulation of neurotransmitters is a successful treatment for re-establishing the neuronal connections in chronic spinal cord injury patients.
