The Behrend function \nu_X,which is one intrinsic constructible function for each scheme X,was introduced by K.Behrend to show that the Donaldson-Thomas invariants of Calabi-Yau threefolds are motivic invariants.Since its invented,the Behrend function has become fundamental tool to define Donaldson-Thomas invariants.I will talk about the basic stuff on the Behrend function and introduce the motivic version of Behrend function and the idea to prove Joyce-Song formula for the Behrend function identities of coherent sheaves.
