The role of chitosan of different MW in protection of tomato from leaf mould caused by Fulviafulva (cooke) ciffrri in the greenhouse was evaluated, the possible physiological mechanism of inducing resistance and the trial of comparison between CTS and Fungicide were also studied.The results showed that: (1) The tomato plantlets which were foliar sprayed with CTS of 213KDa at 6mg ml-1 concentration was able to markedly reduce the rate of diseased leaf and diseased index of tomato cultivars after the fungal inoculation.(2) The activities of Phenylalanine Ammonia-Lyase (PAL), Chitinase and β-1, 3-glucanase in tomato seeding leaves could been induced more strongly when the tomato plantlets were foliar sprayed with chitosan, especially 213KDa CTS.(3) The fungicide effect of the mixing of 5mg ml-1 of CTS5 + 800 fold of 20% Triazolone emulsifiable was better than the using CTS, Triazolone and Carbendazim alone.(4) In vitro, chitosan had strong antifungal activity, almost complete inhibition of F.fulva mycelia colony radial growth was found at concentration of 2mg ml-1.And the antifungal activity of middle MW (213KDa) CTS was stronger than that of others tested in the present experiment, its EC50 and EC90 were 0.396 and 1.677mg ml-1 respectively.
