目前宝石级金刚石主要合成方法为温度梯度法。这种方法通过熔融触媒中的温度空间分布来产生自碳源向晶种的碳的输送而实现金刚石晶体外延生长。生长优质金刚石的要点：(1)保证晶体的各生长区的生长速度小于各自的临界值，(2)保证熔融触媒的高纯度，(3)晶种保护。
