Estrogens, especially 17β-estradiol or E2, a biologically potent estrogen, play very important roles in the proliferation and development of hormone dependent breast carcinoma cells and some of these cells actually require estrogen for their continued growth. Therefore, it became very important to examine the possible sources of these estrogens affecting the biological behavior of hormone dependent breast carcinoma cells in order to understand not only basic biology but also its therapeutic applications.
