Xanthine dehydrogenase(XDH),as a member of the molybdenum enzymes,plays an important role in purine metabolism,catabolizes xanthine and hypoxanthine to ureides,and is involved in nitrogen assimilation,hormone homeostasis,reactive oxygen species production.It controls the process involved in senescence.In this study,the xanthine dehydrogenase gene,designated OsXDH(GenBank accession number: AC114896),was isolated from rice using homologous cloning.
