With rapid development for over 100 years,field of organizational and management has proliferated into various theories of macro,micro and middle range ones,exerting great implications for theory maturity and carrying enormous values in guiding management practice.However,there has not been one generally accepted organizational theory in recent years,and the development of theory is now reaching the ceiling and pondering still,making the academia in an embarrassing situation.By systematically reviewing the research in the academia on topics of aim of scientific research,definition of and differences between theory and non-theory,origin of organizational and management theory,characterization of theoretical contribution,dilemma in theory development,and plausible outlets for theory development,the paper shows again the comprehensive outline of theory development and skeleton of theoretical study being investigated in the field.While reviewing the work done in the field,the paper integrates various ideas on the topics,proposes its opinions on the topics,and analyzes outlets for theory development.Finally,the paper calls on scholars attention to management practices and daily-life observations,in order to ethically generate research questions and papers that are closer to the audience in general,more plausible to lead to new theory,and thought to have more values.
