  INTRODUCTION The artifacts due to physiologic motion when using the Cartesian strategy of magnetic resonance imaging are well known [1] and many techniques of reducing the motion artifacts were presented.Radial trajectory has been found useful from the standpoint of intrinsic robustness to motion effects.In the recent works,golden ratio(GR)based radial profile order has been wildly used in dynamic study [2].Little attention has been given to investigate the motion effects among different radial profile orders.In this paper we compared the motion effects from the golden ratio based and conventional radial profile order strategies by moving phantom simulation.MATERIALS AND METHODS Two sampling strategies were compared by simulation scan of a moving Shepp-Logan phantom,whose white ball was moving up and down(Figure 1).The translational motion was followed by sine function with the amplitude of 5%of FOV.Different motion frequencies were also simulated with scan time/motion period = 0~20,step = 1/3.Based on the Nyquist criterion,402 projections(256 samples each)were sampled in both strategies.The gridding reconstruction was used with Kaiser-Bessel convolution kernel(w=4,β= 18.55,α=2).Root mean square error(RMSE)was calculated between the reconstructed moving phantom image and the reconstructed static phantom image.In order to describe the degradation of static image structures,the image was separated into two areas,near and far away from the moving white ball(yellow circle in Figure 1).RESULTS Figure 2 shows RMSE values of each method inside/outside pre-defined area.RMSE values calculated inside/outside the moving region by using GR method were much smaller than that by using the conventional method.Figure 3 presents results sampled by GR based radial and conventional radial trajectories with 1,10 and 20 motion cycles included in the whole scan time.It is obvious that images from GR based radial trajectory have less motion artifacts and be more stable among different frequency motions.DISCUSSIONS AND CONCLUSIONS Artifacts may degrade static structures of the image.It would be better if only the moving structures of the image were degraded.GR based radial and conventional radial trajectories were compared by moving Shepp-Logan phantom scan simulation.Good performance of GR based radial trajectory maybe benefit from disorganized motion distribution in radial k-space while conventional radial will have continuous motion variations.Detailed theory research will be need in the future work.In conclusion,GR based radial trajectory has good performance in reducing motion artifacts.
