Gas hydrate formation in deepwater oil and gas pipelines is typically avoided by using thermodynamic inhibitors, such as methanol or glycol, which simply shift the thermodynamic phase boundary for hydrate formation to higher pressures and/or lower temperatures. However,as deepwater gas and oil production moves to greater depths of seawater, other strategies than hydrate avoidance need to be considered, such as low dosage hydrate inhibition (LDHI).
