Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (WHO).Health issues include water quality,air quality, physical activity, the nature environment, public safety, healthy eating,mental health, pollutants, and epidemiological issues related to such topics as mortality, obesity, and respiratory diseases, and meanwhile the design tasks include land use, transportation, accessibility, community settings, and parks and open space.We summarize and discuss the relationship between those two fields with case study.It is becoming clear that decisions about the urban environment design may influence certain public health concerns and vice versa.The effective design solutions may help people to reduce the onslaught of depression, obesity, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.Communities can also be designed to reduce traffic fatalities and crime rates,and then the city may become people-friendly places that promote healthy living and feel safe and secure.
