我国长学制医学教育模式是20世纪80年代开始实施的，其核心目标是为了培养具备良好职业素质的优秀医学人才。为此，哈尔滨医科大学开展了以临床岗位胜任能力为导向的七年制临床医学课程改革，从知识、能力和职业品质三个层面确立了20个方面、121项岗位胜任力。
由於受到各種主客觀因素的制約,PBL教學模式至今未能在我國高等醫學教育中廣泛開展。廣州醫學院在教學改革實踐中,將經典的PBL教育理念舆校情相結合,提出了一種新的教學模式——網路式PBL教學模式(以下簡稱W-PBL),並在臨床醫學專業雙語班學生中進行了實施。
