Aquaporins are small channel proteins present in plasma and intracellular membranes of plant cells, facilitating the transport of water and/or small neutral solutes.Among aquaporins, plasma membrane intrinsic proteins (PIPs) constitute a plasma-membrane specific subfamily and they are further distinguished as PIP1 and PIP2 groups.Recentresearches showed that aquaporins play central role in cell growth.
