miR-9 is a conserved microRNA that is enriched in nervous system.Besides its crucial role in neural development,miR-9 might also play a role in glioblastoma. In epithelial tumor,miR-9 could promote the metastasis by targeting E-cadherin.In E-cadherin non-existent brain tumor,is miR-9 also oncogenic? And how does it play its roles? To answer these questions,we elevated the expression of miR-9 in human U87 glioblastoma cells by transfection of miR-9 oligonucleotides. We found that miR-9 transfected cells showed morphology changes with less processes, and they migrated faster than control cells. These effects might be mediated through upregulation of MMPs and N-cadherin which was induced by miR-9 overexpression. These results indicated that miR-9 might play an oncogenic role in glioblastoma, and that it could affect the morphology and migration of U87 gliabalstoma cells through regulating a series of metastasis related molecules.
