  Optimum designs of the shape and reinforcement of cut-outs in composite structures are of great significance in aeronautical engineering.In previous work [1], the authors studied the optimum shape and reinforcement of oval cut-outs in multidirectional composite laminates under biaxial tension and pure shear, respectively, where the objective function is a failure index defined by the Tsai-Hill failure criterion.
