A new programme science approach was used in the development of the Kenya National AIDS Strategic Plan (KNASP) for the period 2009/2010-2013/2014 in place of the traditional method of trend analysis.The programme science approach was grounded in a systematic application of theoretical and empirical scientific evidence in improving the design, implementation, evaluation and impact results analysis of public health interventions.
