The Finite-Discrete Element Method (FEM/DEM) is a promising tool to analyze the tire-sand interactions. However,it usually requires a long driving distance to investigate the tire running behavior on the sand road which will lead to a large-scale simulation model. The Alternately Moving Road Method is proposed in this study to reduce the size of the simulation model: the sand road which has been passed over bythe tire is removed and same size ofroad specimen is laid in front of the tire simultaneously. This method possesses the ability to keep the road scale constant and acceptable in the simulation of arbitrary length sand roads.Numerical modelof tire driving on sand road is established to verify the feasibility of the method. And the simulation results are compared with the current experimental results to validate the feasibility and effectiveness ofthe method.
