A few of decoration techniques had been applied on the ancient Chinese bronzes during the Shang(15th-11th B.C.)and Zhou(11th-3rd B.C.)dynasties.Among them,as one special silvery appearance skill initialized at the end period of Shang dynasty, tinning bronze were improved highly during the 6th-3rd B.C.The excellent examples are the tinned bronze belts, which were tinning after engraved images on their surface. The metallography microscope,XRF,SEM-EDS and Raman microspectroscopy were applied in order to determine the nature of decoration of these tinned belts excavated from Gansu province. The corrosion morphology and products of the cross-sectioned sample were discussed also. This work reveals that SEM-EDS and Raman microspectroscopy combined together is very powerful in the micro-scale investigation of the ancient cultural heritage.
