In mouse and chick embryo,the prechordal plate progenitors are thought to contribute to forebrain,however the details of morphological process of prechordal plate progenitors and the fate of these cells still remains to be addressed.It is understood that the prechordal plate progenitors arising from dorsal blastoderm margin migrate anteriorly during zabrafish embryonic gastrulation.Here,we monitored the prechordal plate progenitors during gastrulation and found that they were able to form two distinct populations,prechordal epitheloid cells and prechordal mesedermal cells,via mesenchymal-epithelial transition(MET).Furthermore,we generated Tg[nkx2.1a:lifeact-EGFP] transgenic zebrafish line,combining with the caged fluorescein-dextran dye tracing assay,to trace the prechordal plate progenitors and their progeny.The epithelioid cells developed into hatching gland and the mesodermal cells contribute to eye,parts of forebrain and midbrain.Together,we describe exhaustively the fates of prechordal plate progentiors during zebrafish embryogeneis,and demonstrate that the development of zebrafish prechordal plate progenitors consists with other vertebrate.
