Beryllium metal is a promising neutron multiplier materials for tritium-breeding blanket of a fusion reactor.However,some problems are anticipated for the application of beryllium in DEMO blanket that requires high neutron flux and higher temperature(600~900 °C).Therefore beryllium intermetallic compounds that have high melting point have been expected as the advanced material for fusion DEMO blanket.Considering both Be and W will be the components for ITER we start to investigate Be-W system.From the viewpoints of high melting point,good oxidation resistance and high beryllium content,beryllium–tungsten mixed materials also an alternative material for neutron multiplier materials.The binary Be-W alloy was prepared by hot isostatic pressing(HIP).Microstructural characterization,phase composition analysis and thermal conductivity were carried out to estimate the opportunity of the use of Be-W.
