Studies of diatom assemblages and Chrysophyte cysts in Miocene deposits from the palaeobasins of the Tunka Depression are important for understanding the origin of Lake Baikal diatom flora. The Tunka Depression is located 60 km westward of the southem extremety of Lake Baikal. The Miocene diatom flora of the Baikal Region is known from deposits in the Tunka Depression (Tscheremissinova 1973, Popova et al.1989, Khursevich 1994, Likhoshway et al.1997).Chrysophyte cysts were not investigated before.
