Mx proteins, as interferon-induced GTPases, have been shown to have antiviral activity in different species. Studies in mouse1 and chicken2 showed that allelic isoforms of Mx1 protein have different antiviral activity and also related to chicken leg defects. The porcine Mx1 gene is also polymorphic. Recently it has been recognized that the 11bp-deletion protein is lacking anti-influenza activity in vitro. Genes related to immune response may also have influence on production traits, in this study we detected the allele frequencies of the 11bp-deletion in 6 different porcine breeds and analyzed its association with 7 production traits. No statistical significant associations between the 11bp-deletion mutation and the seven porcine production traits was found inthis study.
