红花为菊科红花属植物Carthamustinctorius L.的干燥花,作为活血化瘀的代表性药物在临床上使用了两千余年,主要用于治疗冠心病,脑血栓等多种血液循环障碍性疾病.其中红花黄色素(saffior yellow, SY)为多种查耳酮的混合物,其中含量占一半以上的主要成分为羟基红花黄色素A (Hydroxysaffloryellow A,HSYA),为目前所知红花中含量最高的有效成分[19].
