　　Objective:The effects of acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) on myocardial function in patients with coronary artery disease still are not fully elucidated.We hypothesized that in these patients tolerance to ANH might depend on determinants of myocardial oxygen consumption.To test this hypothesis we evaluated myocardial function before and after ANH at two different heart rates.Methods:40 elective coronary surgery patients received a midazolam based anesthesia.In group A (n =20),heart rate was paced at 90 bpm.In group B (n =20),heart rate was paced at70 bpm.
