The pathogenic Yersinia species target and inactivate cells of the innate immune defense, suggesting this to be an efficient way for these bacteria to avoid elimination and cause disease.We show here that during initial stages of oral infection in mice, avirulent Y.pseudotuberculosis yopH and yopE mutants interact differently with innate immune cells compared with wild-type bacteria.
