Background: Some studies report suicide, suicidal ideation, related psychiatric morbidity and psychological distress increase after natural disaster.The focus of this study systematically reviewed epidemiology of suicide after natural disaster.Methods: We searched Medline and PsyclNFO (articles published from January 1990 to April 2011) for original articles of epidemiological study excluded case report and case series.We summarized types of natural disaster, study design, risk factors and some outcomes.Results: We found 30 eligible articles from these databases.Some types of natural disaster had earthquake, flood, tsunami, hurricane, typhoon and drought.Articles evaluated various outcomes, suicide, suicidal ideation, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and others.Study design had many limitations in some studies.Conclusion: The impact of natural disaster was unclear for suicide and related outcomes.More high quality research is required to better understand the impact of natural disaster for suicide.
