TCM has become increasingly popular as Western medicine is seen as ineffective in some chronic diseases, prone to adverse side effects, or too costly.TCM believes that human health is associated with functional balance of the whole body.However, the Western targeting of a specific entity, though providing rapidsymptomatic relief, may not be sufficient to restore balance.Multi-component, multi-targeted TCM address the entire organism and therefore should have advantages, especially in chronic conditions.Such as diabetes.Interestingly, there is a recent trend toward a system biological approach in Western drug discovery.This presentation will demonstrate the translational study of TCM in treating type-Ⅱ diabetes particularly with emphasis on early diagnosis and intervention.We believe that a validated and refined multi-component TCM has great potential forprevention of type Ⅱ diabetes in the 21st century.
