DNA is a polyanion and its adsorption by gold nanoparticles has resulted in a diverse range of applications in analytical chemistry, materials science and drug delivery. While promising applications have been constantly reported, fundamental understanding at the interface between DNA and colloidal gold surface remains to be fully explored. The gold surface can adsorb DNA via specific chemical bonding to result in a strong adsorption affinity.
