Man-made forest play an enormous role in terrestrial ecosystem and global environment with natural forest has been devastating and decreasing because of population explosion, weak awareness, etc.Despite their more and more importance in ecosystem functioning and society, man-made forest remains part of the least studied species in forest. This paper focused on estimation model for leaf pigments of main man-made forest of south China based on leaf spectral properties, which could help monitoring the growth of man-made forest.More than 100 group leaf reflectance data and different pigments contents were collected from ten species man-made forest of south China in lab. Then, the relationships between two kinds of spectral variables and five pigments content were simulated. The first type includes the spectral indices proposed in previous researches.Second type is new spectral indices derived by band combination. The results indicated that previous spectral indices are not suitable for the estimation of leaf pigments contents in south China. The results are pigment-dependent.Two band combinations performed better in leaf pigments contents estimation.Among all obtained pigments, Chla/Chlb and leaf spectral properties has highest correlation (R2=0.806, p<0.01, N=1 15), and validated result has a higher accuracy (R2=0.873, p<0.01, N=35).The results showed that our model is useful in leaf pigments contents estimation across wide ranges of chemical analysis values.
