Prions are believed to be infectious, self-propagating polymers of otherwise soluble host-encoded proteins.The HET-s prion protein of Podospora anserina represents a valuable model system to study the structural basis of infectious amyloid propagation.In this system, prion infectivity can be generated in vitro by introduction of a recombinant protein.The C-terminus Prion Forming Domain of the HET-s protein has been structurally characterized and we recently shown that its N-terminal HeLo domain is a mediator of a cell death reaction.
