The Southern Ocean plays an important role for the anthropogenic CO2 uptake,mainly due to its large-area and high wind speeds (Sabine and Key,1998),although biological activities are rather limited bylower iron supply (Martin et al.,1990).However,previous studies differ in estimates of oceanic CO2 uptake largely (ex.Rayner et al.1999: Takahashi et al.2002) because of limited observation.For sea improving our present knowledge about temporal and spatial variations of pCO2 and air-sea CO2 flux,multi-ship observations with R/Vs Hakuho-Maru,Tangaroa and icebreaker Shirase were made mainly inthe eastern Indian Sector (140°-150°E) from January to March 2002.
